Method

Learning the basic methods of SNA and the principles behind them has become far more accessable because of this book. It gives step by step instructions for doing SNA using Pajek, a free network analysis and visualization program explaining the rational behind each type of analysis.

Introduction to Mathematical Sociology
Phillip Bonacich

As with statistics and other topics, it is possible to do SNA by inputting data into programs and interpreting the results without knowing the background. This paper is a clear, undergraduate level introduction to the terminology that will make many of the other books much easier to read.
The first two chapters of this book are a useful introduction to Social Network Analysis and the other chapter are about various techniques of Social Network Analysis.
Though fairly old, this book is still the most comprehensive compilation of the algorithms and reasons for many widely used SNA methods.
